US Asks Germany to Take Gitmo Prisoners - my comment

The below in bold is an article from the Huffington Post - found with the following link:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/03/us-asks-germany-to-take-g_n_195382.html

My comment to this article begins after the bold bit.

"BERLIN — The United States has asked Germany to accept some Guantanamo prisoners when the facility is closed, the Interior Ministry said Sunday, confirming German media reports.

An Interior Ministry spokesman, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with the ministry's policy, confirmed a report in Der Spiegel magazine that the U.S. has provided a list of names of prisoners it would like Germany to accept.

"There is a concrete request," the spokesman said, saying he could not provide any further details.

Der Spiegel reported, without citing sources, that the U.S. had asked Germany to accept 10 prisoners.

Top-selling Bild newspaper, meanwhile, reported the 10 were Chinese Muslims, known as Uighurs. It also did not cite sources.

President Barack Obama has ordered the military prison in Cuba shuttered in the next nine months.

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said at the end of April that the U.S. Justice Department is still trying to determine how many of the 241 prisoners in Guantanamo will be taken by other countries.

Also at the end of April, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder spent several days privately asking European leaders in London, Prague and Berlin for help relocating prisoners the United States wants to set free.

In Berlin, Holder said the United States had made decisions on a group of about 30 prisoners, but had not yet decided where it wants to send them."

My comment:

Um, now, why would Germany take stealth prisoners that the United States unofficially captured? And have been unofficially holding without trial, without legal counsel, for the past - what - 7 years?

I am kinda taken aback at the utter gall of the US even asking. Is there one good reason - like them being German citizens? That would be the only plausible reason for even considering letting them in. But they aren´t as far as I know. The article states they are Chinese Muslims. Errr......Chinese? Why not ask China? Yeah, ok, maybe a death sentence right there. You know, Chinese officials issuing the following statment: "you were stupid enough to have been captured by the People we own, whom by default, we can keep as pets, therefore you shall be executed by firing squad". So - ok - don´t send them to China.

The logic in approaching European governments seems a bit skewed. And it seems to be an almost preordained bone of contention between the US and its allies, since methinks most will go for the "thanks but no thanks" type answer. Having said that - at least have the sense to approach the Coalition of the Willing first. Great Britain? Australia? Was there anyone else?

Germany was dead set against the War from the outset so seems absolutely ludicrously absurd expecting them to say:" Hell yeah. Bring it on. We´d love to have a bunch of tortured possible innocent of any crimes muslims who would love to now blow the shit out of any country agreeing to take them "

I mean, its a no win situation. Its like playing poker with an illegal alien, staking your passport. You know you are gonna lose.

The United States is shurking its responsibilty here. Wtf? In covert super duper undercover Ninja style all dressed in black pick up any poor slob who looks like a terrorist (beard and/or firearms immediately setting off red alert terrorist lurking signal) and happens to be standing by the roadside as a black-like-totally black SUV pulls up and drags afore-mentioned slob into the car and with screetching tires speeds to the nearest airport Jason Bourne-Kingdom-007 type mode - these victims and their release into society have to be dealt with by the perpetrators. And that, in my opinion, is the US States government. Either that, or send them to Bush`s ranch.

They can keep him as a slave. Better yet, bag him and send him to a jurta in Mongolia. Sure he can help with the horses.
